Read More Background: The aim of study was to investigate the correlation between anthropometrical and physiological characteristics of young elite boys and their performance in crawl and backstroke. Methods: This study was a descriptive research. Subjects of the study consisted of 122 young elite boy swimmers (mean age 12-13 years; height 1.540±8.24m; weight 47.820±6.84kg), who participated in 2018 national championship 2018 in Shiraz and filled the consent forms. Results: There was a significant negative relationship between foot length (r=-0.400, P=0.028), leg power (length jump) (r=-0.477, P=0.008), static balance (r=-0.380, P=0.038) and dynamic balance (inferior) (r=-0.367, P=0.046) with 100m crawl (n=30) time. Whereas, there was a significant positive relationship between leg action and reaction velocity (r=0.438, P=0.015) with 100m crawl time. Furthermore, a significant negative relationship was found between head circumference (r = -0.507, P=0.019) and 400m crawl (n=21) time. Moreover, leg power (length jump) (r=0.543,P=0.011) was positively correlated with 400m crawl time, while a negative correlation was revealed between trunk circumference at nipple height (r=0.381,P=0.038), trunk circumference at hip (r=-0.523,P=0.003), forearm length (r=-0.412,P=0.024), hand length (r=-0.400,P=0.029), and tight length (r=-0.461, P=0.010) with 100m backstroke (n=30) time. In addition, there was a significant negative relationship between seated height (r=-0.399, P=0.039), hand length (r=-0.400, P=0.039), and tibia length (r=-0.415, P=0.032) with 200m backstroke (n=27) time. Whereas, relationship between trunk circumference at hip (r=0.600, P=0.001), and leg power (high jump) (r=0.408, P=0.035) with 200m backstroke time was significantly positive. Conclusion: anthropometrical and physiological characteristics were significantly correlated with the performance of young elite boys in crawl and backstroke. It´s recommended that coaches and swimmers pay attention to results of the study at the earliest stages of adolescence for getting more success in reaching the peak of athletic performance

Read More Background: The relationship between anthropometrical and physiological parameters with running time is important. We aimed to investigate relationship between anthropometrical and physiological parameters with running time of elite girls. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, subjects were selected from 197 elite runner girls, 14-16 years old, participated in the national championship of the country selection 2019 in Ardabil, Iran. All anthropometrical and physiological parameters (such as length of limbs and strength) were measured with appropriate and reliable tools. Pearson correlation coefficient was used to examine the relationships between variables. Results: There was a significant negative relationship between trunk flexibility (r=-0.448, P=0.022), left hand strength (r=-0.445, P=0.023), and left leg strength (r=-0.472, P=0.015) with 60m time; hip length (r=-0.504, P=0.010) with 400m time; between head circumference (r=-0.571, P=0.004), forearm length (r=-0.435, P=0.035), and static balance (r=-0.454, P=0.026) with 800m time; between arm length (r=-0.411, P=0.041), hip circumference (r=-0.487, P=0.014), leg length (r=-0.509, P=0.009), hand length (r=-0.595, P=0.002), and length jump (r=-0.482, P=0.015) with 1500m time; between wrist circumference (r=-0.439,P=0.041) and 3000m time; between arm length (r=-0.420, P=0.026), and leg length (r=-0.434, P=0.021) with 4×100m relay race time. Whereas there was a significant positive relationship between trunk circumference at hip (r=0.462, P=0.020), and 400m time; between length jump (r=0.408, P=0.048), and 800m time; between palm length (r=0.481, P=0.015) and 1500m (n=25) time; between dynamic balance (lateral) (r=0.455, P=0.033) and 3000m time; between trunk circumference at hip (r=0.394, P=0.038), and 4×100m relay race time. Conclusion: Based on the results, there was a significant relationship between anthropometrical and physiological parameters with running time. Therefore, it´s recommended that coaches pay attention to the results of this study to select and substitute talented runners to gain greater success in reaching the peak of athletic performance.

We aimed to investigate the relationship between anthropometrical and physiological characteristics with breaststroke and butterfly swimming time in elite swimmer boys. Materials and Methods: This study was a descriptive research, comprised of 122 elite young boy swimmers (age 12-13 years; height 1.540±8.24 m; weight 47.820±6.84 kg), who participated in the national championship of the country’s selection in 2018 in Shiraz, Iran, and who had signed the consent form Anthropometrical and physiological parameters were measured for 5 days. Pearson correlation coefficient was used to examine the relationships between variables. Results: There were significant negative relationships between supraspinatus fat (r=-0.461, P=0.009), right leg strength (r=-0.376, P=0.037), and static balance (r=-0.629, P=0.0001) with 50 m breaststroke time, between leg power (jump length)(r=0.448, P=0.015), and static balance (r=-0.529, P=0.003) with 100 m breaststroke time, between head circumference (r=-0.472, P=0.023), and leg power (jump length)(r=-0.454, P=0.030) with 200 m breaststroke time, between subscapularis fat (r=-0.434, P=0.012), and trunk flexibility (r=-0.350, P=0.046) with 50 m butterfly time, between trunk flexibility (r=-0.445, P=0.029), and100 m butterfly time. Whereas, there were significant positive relationships between leg action and reaction velocity (r=0.411, P=0.013) with 50 m breaststroke time, between dynamic balance (Internal)(r=0.368, P=0.050), and 100 m breaststroke time, between leg power (jump length)(r=0.511, P=0.002), and 50 m butterfly time, between triceps fat (r=0.489, P=0.015), and subscapularis fat (r=0.561, P=0.004), and dynamic balance (lateral)(r=0.424, P=0.039) with 100 m butterfly time. Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between anthropometrical and physiological characteristics with elite young boys in breaststroke and butterfly time.
